Gaza War Deepens: The UN human rights chief, Volker Türk, stated that Gaza is experiencing its “darkest moment” in the north, with the Israeli military bombarding the area and imposing a siege that risks starvation for the civilian population. He urged world leaders to act, emphasizing their responsibility under the Geneva Conventions to uphold international humanitarian law.
The Israeli military reported that its troops have killed “hundreds of terrorists” and evacuated 45,000 civilians in Jabalia since re-entering the area on October 6 to prevent Hamas from regrouping. There has been no immediate response from the military regarding the UN’s comments.
The head of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed concern over reports that Israeli troops raided one of the last functioning hospitals in northern Gaza.
The WHO lost contact with Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahia, which had nearly 200 patients. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry claimed that Israeli troops detained patients, staff, and displaced people, while Israel’s military said it was operating in the area based on intelligence about the presence of terrorists.
Gaza Faces Dire Humanitarian Crisis Amid Continuous Bombing and Displacement
Hundreds of Palestinians have reportedly died, and tens of thousands have been displaced since Israeli forces returned to Jabalia. Residents who cannot evacuate are facing dire conditions, with food and essential supplies running low. The UN human rights chief, Volker Türk, stated that northern Gaza is experiencing continuous bombing, with hundreds of thousands ordered to move without guarantees of return.
He warned that Israeli policies could lead to the removal of all Palestinians from the area, potentially amounting to atrocity crimes or even crimes against humanity. Türk condemned Palestinian armed groups for endangering civilians by operating among them and urged global action to uphold the Geneva Conventions, emphasizing that states are legally bound to prevent genocide where there is a risk. Israel has long accused the UN of bias and denied claims of war crimes.
Gaza Hospital Under Siege: Eyewitness Accounts of Violence and Detentions
On Friday, Gaza’s health ministry reported that Israeli forces “stormed” Kamal Adwan hospital, detaining hundreds of patients, medical staff, and displaced people. Displaced men were allegedly forced to remove their clothes, and some were arrested.
The hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, had not been heard from since being called by Israeli forces. In a video, he expressed concern over tanks shelling the hospital instead of providing aid. Nursing director Eid Sabbah described how tanks opened fire on the hospital, terrorizing civilians and children. The WHO confirmed that a team evacuated some patients but lost contact with hospital staff after the raid.
The Israeli military stated it was operating in the area based on intelligence about terrorists and had facilitated patient evacuations before the operation.

Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi urged U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to pressure Israel over the worsening humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza, claiming ethnic cleansing is happening. He expressed concern that Israel’s military plans to forcibly displace 400,000 civilians from the north to the south. The Israeli military denied such claims, stating they are ensuring civilian safety. Safadi warned of a potential regional war and emphasized the need for Israel to halt aggressive actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Blinken is seeking a diplomatic resolution and plans to meet with Arab leaders to discuss post-conflict Gaza. Israel is working on negotiations to restart ceasefire talks with Hamas after a significant military campaign began in response to a Hamas attack on October 7. Since then, over 42,840 people have reportedly died in Gaza.
