Bell Joins Elite Ranks: Athletes Receive Boost in UKA Funding. Olympic 1500m bronze medallist Georgia Bell has been elevated to the highest tier of UK Athletics funding as she prepares for next year’s World Championships in Tokyo. At 31, Bell made a stunning debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing a medal just three years after her return to competitive athletics. She has since transitioned from her career in cyber security to pursue athletics full-time.

Joining Bell in this prestigious funding tier are Emile Cairess, who ranks as the second-fastest British marathon runner ever, along with double Olympic relay bronze medallist Amber Anning, 800m athlete Max Burgin, and long jumper Jacob Fincham-Dukes. In total, 65 athletes will receive financial support from UKA, a slight decrease from 67 in the previous year, underscoring the competitive nature of the funding landscape.

Bell Joins Elite Ranks: World Class Programme

The ‘World Class Programme’ categorizes selected athletes into four levels based on their past performances and potential for the upcoming two Olympic Games. This year, Great Britain achieved remarkable success at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing 10 athletics medals—the highest tally in 40 years.

Among the newly added athletes are rising stars Louie Hinchliffe and Phoebe Gill, who both had standout seasons. However, notable omissions from the funding list include pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw, who won bronze in Tokyo, and distance runner Eilish McColgan, highlighting the competitive nature of the selection process and the challenges even accomplished athletes face in securing support.
