Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle faced the House management Committee on Monday. Nevertheless she took responsibility for security failures. The failures led to an attempted assassination of former President Trump. Moreover Cheatle avoided answering many major questions. Lawmakers asked her if the Secret Service secured the building. But she didn’t explain how the gunman accessed the roof.
On the other hand committee members told her to resign. In fact they called her answers “incompetent” and “lame excuses.” Rep. Nancy Mace called Cheatle dishonest. Mace plans to file articles to impeach Cheatle. Rep. Greg Steube. Also plans to impeach Cheatle. Impeachment applies to all federal officials. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna wants to hold Cheatle in disgust. Lawmakers asked Cheatle if guns make her job easier. She didn’t answer directly, frustrating Rep. Connolly. Rep. Pete Sessions demanded clear answers. Besides Cheatle called the shooting a major failure.
She promised to investigate and fix the problems. Cheatle didn’t give details on security numbers. She said the agency assigned enough agents. They saw the gunman as suspicious before the attack. Cheatle said they still let Trump speak. Rep. Krishnamoorthi said the rally should have paused. But Cheatle said the gunman became a threat seconds before shooting. Counter-snipers don’t need permission to shoot threats. Cheatle uses encrypted apps sometimes. Despite calls to resign, Cheatle stays as director. Finally She promised answers after a full report. But Lawmakers said 60 days is too long.

Cheatle’s dodged questions about the investigation, angering lawmakers. She called the attack the Secret Service’s biggest failure in decades.
Cheatle’s promised to find out what went wrong. And prevent it from happening again. Certainly “The Secret Service’s mission is to protect our leaders. On July 13th, we failed,” she said. Cheatle spoke to the House Oversight and Accountability Committee.
