Jimmy Carter Former President
Jimmy Carter Former President is still alive despite false social media claims. A fake letter with typos and jokes announced his death. The letter was shared widely, including by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, but his post has been removed.
The fake letter starts by announcing Jimmy Carter’s death in a believable way. It says he died at age 99. However, it quickly turns into satire, listing false achievements like “selling the U.S. out to Panama” and “getting soft on the Soviet Union.”
The letter also makes inappropriate references to Carter’s late wife, Rosalynn Carter, and other first ladies.
The original July 23 X post called the letter fake. It said President Carter is alive and in hospice care, and the letter was an experiment to test how gullible people are to sensational headlines.
The Carter Center confirmed that Jimmy Carter is still alive. They said the letter is false and there has been no change in his condition.
Jimmy Carter Former President entered hospice care in February 2023. In June, his grandson reported that his condition remained the same.
At 99, Jimmy Carter holds the titles of the oldest living and longest-lived U.S. president. The claim that he died is false.
