Katie Ledecky , at the 2024 Paris Games, she was the clear favorite for the women’s 1500m freestyle. Additionally she holds the 19 fastest times in the event’s history. Ledecky won the 1500m in its debut in Tokyo. Her races often go viral because she is so far ahead. This time, it wasn’t if she’d win, but by how much. Furthermore Ledecky finished with a time of 15:30.02, setting an Olympic record. She was ten seconds faster than the next finisher. Moreover this win earned her an eighth career Olympic gold medal.
Katie Ledecky tied Jenny Thompson for the most Olympic golds by an American woman. Ledecky also tied for the most Olympic medals (12) by any U.S. woman. After the race, she reflected on her achievement. “I try not to think about history much,” she said. “It’s an honor to be named among them. I’m grateful for them inspiring me.”

This could be her 13th Olympic medal. It would make her the most decorated female U.S. Olympian. Ledecky’s next individual medal chance is the 800m freestyle. Finally prelims are on August 2nd, and finals are on August 3rd.
